Chapter Six - Hacking Setup And Software [Hacks 50-55]
The rest of the hacks in this book are
mods, which means they are not tricks or glitches-they are ways that you can hack Halo 2 itself. To try these hacks, you will need access to a modded Xbox with a mod chip installed-these are referred to as modded Xboxes.
Although it used to require significant effort to set up a modded Xbox, these days, there are simple options. If you want to get a modded Xbox but aren't interested in installing a mod chip, you can buy a pre-modded system online. For more information about pre-modded Xboxes, refer to
http://www.xbox-modchips.com/premodded.htm. For more information about using modded Xboxes, refer to
http://www.xbox-scene.com. The following books also have a great deal of information on modding an Xbox.
The Black Art of Xbox Mods, by Jonathan Harbour (SAMS)
Game Console Hacking, by Joe Grand (Syngress)
Hacking the Xbox, by Andrew "Bunnie" Huang (No Starch Press)
Once the Xbox has been modded, you should set up FTP access so that you can network it with a PC. This access allows you to transfer Halo 2 files (such as maps) to your PC, modify them, and transfer them back to your Xbox. You can use any FTP client to perform the transfer-I use CuteFTP (http://www.cuteftp.com).
NOTE: The only way that Xbox mods can be played is via system link connection. Under absolutely no circumstances should you attempt to connect to Xbox Live with either an active mod chip, or a modded map. if you try to do this, you will be permanently banned from Xbox Live. Furthermore, attempting to use any mod on Xbox Live will seriously undermine the credibility of all modders. Anyone who uses a mod to cheat will lose the respect and support of the entire modding community. The remainder of the hacks in this book will require the use of modding applications that run on a PC. With that in mind, this chapter introduces you to the most popular Halo 2 modding apps. For more information about Halo 2 mods and modding applications, refer to the tutorials on
http://www.halomods.com.
The hack themometer level for subsequent chapters is based on how difficult the hack is to reproduce with Halo 2 modding software. In other words, the work to mod the Xbox, establish FTP connection to the Xbox hard drive, and installing the modding software is not considered in the calculation of the thermometer level.
Coming up next...
Mod Your Maps with ADI - Hack Halo 2 .MAP files using this popular application
Use an Open Source Map Editor - Use the Ch2r open source application to hack your Halo 2 maps
Mod Maps with DotHalo - DotHalo offers another Halo 2 map-editing option
Sign Your Custom Maps - Use the Encryptomatic Signature app to sign modded map files
Hack Halo 2 by Hand - Hack Halo 2 with a hex editor (Hex Workshop)
Share your Saved Games - Use the Xbox-Saves Manager to use other people's saved games
Remix Multiplayer Levels with Campaign Mode Objects - Use Insolence to inject single-player campaign assets into multiplayer maps
Weapon ModsThis excerpt and the following threads have all been taken from the book
Halo 2 Hacks (pg.105-106), by Stephen Cawood.

Who has experienced this wonderful game? I bought this game a ways back and very few games have held my attention. Only Games that come to mind Are Starcraft Fable, And Half Life2 Death Match. But back To Fable. I love the fact that it's complex enought to be indepth but easy enough for the learning curve of the game to be rather quick. Just a good combination all around. Good customizable Character. Very good replay value.
they've making a new fable as well and I can't wait for that.
You thoughts?

I bought this game a few days ago just because it was only $20 and just from the back it looked good.. Has any one played this. From the reviews this is a phenomenal game.
IGN Rated it a 9.7 and from my expierience there rating system is pretty critical. Game spot gave it an 8.7 along with other not so known rating gave it such a high score.
I am certainly not ignorant to great games in the sense that I'm around enough magazines and Reviews to be well informed about which games are good and that are worth playing.
Is this possibly the most overlooked game or did i miss something. I mean I can't be the only one here that hasn't heard of this game when based on the reviews it's like everyone should have heard about it. Am I wrong?
I have yet to play it so i can't give my personal thoughts but i will probably start tonight and once i get a good taste I'll give my feed back on whether it's as great as it's allegedly supposed to be.

Well i was asked to post this, so here it is, only flaw is that it is client sided.
You can hack to any clothing, even opposite gender/job, and and lvl armor
QUOTE(Hylian_Mafia @ MPC FORUMS;1541141)
**This is just a remake of my Clothing Hack Tutorial...Since the Post was old I wasn't able to edit it....So this Clothing Tut will be for the New patch of Ver .31! This is the Uber-Newbie guide to Clothing Pointers!! No one should be confused on this Tutorial...I also will add a Q & A part post which will be the post below this one!!
*EDIT - October 30 2006 - I add the Wizet Briefcase and also here the Pumpkin basket value I made a thread about this so I decide to just put in into this thread....Pumpkin Value 1302062
*Clothing Pointers are all CS here is some proof(Which means no one can see the clothing except for you, Although it does make good Avatars, Videos, Pictures, Sigs, Etc...*
*I decide to see if Clothing Pointers are Client-Side...SO I put on full GM outfit and walked up to a random person and ask them about what I was wearing![Proof]
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c286/Gen...o/Maple0003.jpgFirst you might need the address and offsets of the clothing pointers to get started:
Name/Pointer address/Offset
Hat/76254c/ 61
Face&Emoticon/76254c/ 65
Eyes/76254c/ 69
Earring/76254c/ 6D
Overall/Top/76254c/ 71
Bottom/76254c/ 75
Shoes/76254c/ 79
Gloves/76254c/ 7D
Cape/76254c/ 81
Shield/76254c/ 85
Weapon/76254c/ 89
Now just incase you are wondering I am using GGK & DD...and yes it will probably work on your Cheat Engines. Now if you don't know what some of the terms I'm going to use check out this sticky
http://www.mpcforum.com/showthread.php?t=156312 Now bypass gameguard and log on to your character and go back to your cheat engine. Now time for steps.
Step 1: Go to add address manually or add sumthin manually(depends on the CE). and you should see something like this
[Pic 1]
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c286/Gen.../addaddress.jpg click on the pointer box as in the picture and 2 more options should be available.
Step 2: Insert the clothing pointer address which is 76254c into the address bar as seen in picture 2 and the offset number or Hex number and press ok and you should see something like this
[Pic 2]
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c286/Gen...interoffset.jpg Step 3: Now you'll need to find the clothing you would like to wear go to this Url to find the values.
http://sauna.gibbed.us/equipment_searchStep 4: Once you have found what you want to wear right-click the picture and go down to properties click on properties and copy the last 7-digits on the png number it should look like this XXXXXXXX.png here is a pic
[PIC 3]
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c286/Gen...mo/7-digits.jpgStep 5: Now you should have something that looks like this
[Pic 4]
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c286/Gen...smo/address.jpgNow right click the address and go to change record and another menu should appear click on Value or Valyy(depends on CE) and now it brings up this menu
[PIC 5]
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c286/Gen...osmo/value7.jpgpress ok.
Step 6: Paste the 7-digit value from the picture and paste it in the Value Bar as seen in Pic 5 and press ok.
Step 7: Freeze the address
[PIC 6]
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c286/Gen...mo/freezing.jpgStep 8: Change channels and voila you have some new clothes...
*clothing pointers only make you look like your wearing them so you won't have the stats that comes with the item.*
Here is a vid of some of the Screw ups when you are clothing pointing!
[Vid 1]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-f5vglkh7tIThey are completely normal so don't freak out. If that happens keeping changing channels till your person is standing there with the Clothing pointer clothes if it doesn't work get on a ladder or rope and change channels!
If you jump or fall you'll see that your character's actual clothing flashes until he hits the ground.
[VID 2]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63hbmnLPJLETo prevent this glitch try this handy dandy glitch I found.
*Note if you want an weapon to work(as in stab...Swinging doesn't work) have your weapon off then equip.
Step 1: Jump on a rope, ladder, pipe whatever and unequip or equip your weapon. If you have the GM hat on then the Wings should show if not keep on repeating the process. If you do not have the GM hat on then you should be able to jump, fall, attack, and stuff without showing your real clothing but when you climb up something like a pipe, rope, ladder you actual clothing will appear.
[VID 3]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNwYiWfm1MU*Note this is 100% my original work so at least give credit to me if you like to use some of the tips*
Here is GM clothing Hacks for you guys.
Top: 1042003
Bottom: 1062007
Wizet Hat: 1002140
Wizet Briefcase: 1322013
Any Questions Pm me or Post!!!
*Credits to AsnFuBo for the clothing pointers and b3MSMX for posting the thread with the pointers in it!*

edit: also from someone that translated this:
http://carnage.bungie.org/haloforum/halo.f....pl?read=752107QUOTE
"Just got LEVEL (swedish gaming mag) in the mailbox..
Really nice Halo 3 cover, and a 10-page or so article on the game, with lots of (multiplayer) pictures.
I haven't read the whole article yet but they reveal 2 new weapons and 1 new veichle, and also a "Legendary Edition" of the game.
The "legendary edition" is sort of a "special-special-edition" that consists of a Full-size replica of the Master Chiefs helmet that contains 4 DVDs with material.
1= The Game
2=Various documentaries and audio commentary
3=Spinoffs such as "Red vs Blue" and "Spark of Life"
4= ALL the cutscenes from all three games in Hi-def
Oh, the game looks great btw"
Scans/more info coming soon.
"To be honest I haven't seen much of Resistance so I can't really say which looks better..all i can say is that Halo 3 looks really good in the pictures (especially the environments) and according to an interview with some Bungie people that is in the mag, alot of graphical effects that will be in the final version are not even in this version.
New Weapons:
*Spiker: the weapon of choice for brutes.
*Spartan Laser: An anti-veichle weapon, fires a red laser that pretty much destroys any veichle that is hit.
from gamefaqs
Swedish magazine level has had the chance to play halo 3 in multiplayer and there are 3 levels which is revealed,
Valhalla = blood gulch, High Ground = Zanzibar, Snowbound = Frost bite.
New vehicle - Mongoose, mostly for transport 2 persons.
new weapon- spartan laser, hard to use but extremely powerful vehicle destroyer apparentley
- nail grenade, sticks on walls and emits nails into the air.
new weapon - spiker (brute weapon),
your secondary weapon is visible at all times at your back. (THANK GOD!!!)
New transportation system in multiplayer- man cannon, launches you into the air through air streams, you can still be fired at and you can fire back.
The X-button will have a special use which Bungie will not reveal.
No bots will come to H3. that will be all.
New Veichle:
*Moongoose: The ATV that was supposed to be in Halo 2. It carries 2 people and it doesn't have any weapons so it's mainly a means of getting from point A to point B as fast as possible."
From another guy who translated some developer quotes:
http://forum.teamxbox.com/showpost.php?p=8...mp;postcount=29QUOTE
OK, I'll translate some tidbits from the (partially readable) interview part
On plot twists
"Halo 3 will contain more plot twists than any other game in the series" --Jaime Griesemer
On Gears of War being competition
"We've played lots and lots of multiplayer and some singleplayer, and yeah, it's really good. But it's also quite a bit different from what we're doing. I realize that a lot of people are concerned that Halo 3 and GoW are going to compete for the same audience, but I think that when people get to play, they'll realize how different the games are. Gears is a much slower game where stragegy and cover plays a bigger part." --Jaime Griesemer
On graphics
"A lot is still missing in this build. Weather- and water effects are missing, and most of our HDR isn't in there yet. We're still at alpha stage, but when everything is in place, Halo 3 will be the best X360 has to offer." --Brian Jarrard
"We definitely have another strategy than Epic Games when it comes to graphics. We'll never engulf our game environments in lots of details like that. GoW looks absolutely fantastic, but we want to avoid compromising Halo's unique visual style. That's why we're making a clean, sharp game as opposed to one with insane amount of details." --Brian Jarrard
"There are many ways to convey emotion. Graphics is not the most important one." --Brian Jarrard
On multiplayer and bots
"Multiplayer has always been important, but it's developed in a different way which makes it look bigger for every game. We have a base that we always build the MP part on, whereas the SP mode practically has to be built ground-up every time. Xbox Live also made MP in Halo 2 even more important." --Brian Jarrard
"A lot of people ask us about bots. They think that the AI in Halo was pretty damn good, and would work well in MP as well, but it's really not that simple. The enemies in Halo are optimized for encountering the player in large numbers. They would be a lot worse at abstract thought AI like 'I have to defend my flag' and so forth. In short, to create bots for Halo would be an immense undertaking, and we rather put that time into making new levels, weapons and netcode." --Jaime Griesemer

Okay, this topic is mainly about the many Easter Eggs found throughout the games of Halo: Combat Evolved,
and Halo 2. This topic makes the assumption that the reader (you) has played through most of the game, is able
to handle Legendary, and does not mind spoilers (if any occur). Since Bungie is rather famous for their hidden
Easter Eggs in various games, this is going to be a rather long topic. I will post what I finished thus far, and will
edit the post as I finish more of the list.
Now... Moving on...
Table of Contents -Easter Eggs
-What are those?
-Location of Eggs, and Some Background on Them
-The Skulls
-...Skulls?
-What do they do?
-The Effects/Locations/Difficulty Settings
-Rumors, Debates, Etc...
-Credits
Okay, let's start with the Easter Eggs that Bungie has hidden throughout the first Halo. Oh, and from now on, I shall be separating the sections by a series of dashes like so: -------
---------
Easter EggsSo, some of you already know what easter eggs are, and some of you who are new to gaming are probably
wondering what they are. Easter Eggs are basically hidden goodies that are put into the game by the
developers as a sort of bonus for those that pay close attention to their surroundings, or explore a lot.
Some eggs in Halo can be considered 'in-jokes' that the developers put in just for fun, or they can be there
as an incentive to others to keep searching for more things, or they can also be there as a reward for finding
it. Also, many of them can be a little... strange...
Now, starting with the first Halo, there are quite a few eggs that can be found, and I'll list where they are,
how to get to them, what's the point of it, and any sort of reason behind WHY the devs put it in.
---------
EASTER EGGS - Halo: CE 1.) Hidden Soundtrack in Assault on the Control Room
This hidden soundtrack is found on the 5th level of Halo, Assault on the Control Room. It is a track that
was used in one of Bungie's earlier games, called 'Myth'. It's a rather sad, melancholy piano solo.
The way to get to this egg, however, is not easy, since it requires a lot of trial and error. The best way is to
progress through the level as you normally would, and when you reach the area where there is an unmanned
Scorpion tank, and some Marines fighting off some Covenant, make sure you grab a rocket launcher, since
it's needed for something up ahead. Continue on until you reach the frozen lake with the Wraith sitting on it.
Take out the 2 or 3 Ghosts and the Wraith, and let the Marines mop up the foot soldiers. At this point, DO NOT
cross the lake, stop before it, climb out, turn 180 degrees and look straight up. You will see an overhang that
has a Banshee hidden on the ledge. This is the part that needs the rockets. Pull out your launcher, aim a
bit to the left of the metal beam that is supporting the underside of the platform, and fire. If the Banshee doesn't
come down, then readjust yourself and try again. The Banshee doesn't take damage so long as there is no one
in it.
Now that you have a Banshee, pilot it through the rest of the level. When you reach the structure that opens
into the Control Room, look up a little at the structure. There should be 3 braces that support the main spire,
you want to go to the middle one. Climb out of the Banshee and head to the right side of the brace (when facing
the wall). (ex:

You need to stand there for about 1.5 seconds before you hear the music play. If you are still lost, use this
for a reference...

2.) SPARTAN Armor Specs Sheet
Ever wondered what that tiny, unreadable text on the multiplayer screen says? Well, people from halo.bungie.org
have managed to show us what it says!
http://nikon.bungie.org/tipsntricks/eggs/g...es.finished.gif For those that are too lazy to check, starting from the top and working clockwise, it says this:
-U.V. Protectant Sun Visor For Protection From Elements
-All Your Base Are Belong To Us
-Action/Reload One-Way Flexible Joint System
-Directional Lock Mjolnir Cyborg Dealer Parts (Unknown Text... Graphics Only?)
-Hydraulic Suspension Thigh Pads with Cool Kevlar Crap
-Sometimes I Give Myself The Creeps, Sometimes My Mind Plays Tricks On Me
-*Same Text As First*
---------
3.) Chinese Characters on the M6D
On the M6D in Halo: CE, there are a couple of chinese characters that are easy to miss. One being on the top
of the barrel, and the other is on the back end of the barrel.
Top Character "7" (http://nikon.bungie.org/tipsntricks/eggs/shichi.jpg)
Rear Character "Power" (http://nikon.bungie.org/tipsntricks/eggs/pistolpower.jpg)
---------
4.) The Bloody 'Megg'
This easter egg is found on the Pillar of Autumn, the first level. It's supposed to be a gift from one of the game
designers to his girlfriend. To get to the egg, you need to progress to the point where you meet Cpt. Keyes, and
receive the pistol. Go to the first checkpoint, where the pistol gets auto-loaded for you, then run back to Keyes.
Shoot him... I'm serious, shoot him, and Cortana will call in invincible Marines to kill you, stating that you have
gone 'rampant'. Get to the door that opens up to let the Marines out, and run in the moment it opens. If you do it
correctly, turn on your in-game flashlight, and look at the roof. You should see a bloody heart-shaped spatter, with
an 'M' in it, made from bullet holes. (http://halosm.bungie.org/misc/snmegg/images/The_Megg_still.jpg)
Even though this game has been out for a long while, no one really knows WHY it was put into the game, since
it was put in when the particular designer was on the team, and not taken out when he left shortly thereafter.
---------
5.) The Food Nipple Grunt
This... intresting... easter egg is found on the level 'The Maw'. It was put in just for fun, since some people like
to explore even when there's a timer ticking down to your 100 million degree doom... Anyway, it can be found in
a hallway after seeing Foehammer getting shot down. The particular hallway it's in, is in at area where your distance
tracker registers at 915 meters. When you reach this hallway, proceed about halfway though it, and climb out of
the Warthog. There is a short dead-end tunnel off to your right, and it's filled with dead bodies, and one Spec-Ops
Grunt at the end of it. It won't attack you or anything, and will still react like normal if attacked ('witty remarks'...)
and what he says, however, is hilarious... I'll let you hear it for yourself...
---------
6.) REX
This is a well hidden easter egg, because usually by the time you get to it, you have less than a minute left, depending
on how fast you are getting there. It can be found after you watch as Foehammer goes down. Continue the level as
usual until you reach the large jump that drops you a few stories onto another ramp below. There is a sort of bridge
over the ramp you go through, with doors to either side. If you prop the Warthog on the far edge, CAREFULLY, you
should be able to jump onto the structure and walk along the 'bridge'. When you get there, look to the left-hand room,
with respect to the way your walking. You will see a wall that has been written on with blood by Mr. Tyson Green, a.k.a.
'Rex', one of Bungie's top level designers. While you're there, check the opposite wall, there is what seems to be random
blood spatters, but some say it looks like a picture of something...
---------
Halo 2 Easter Eggs Now, moving into Halo 2's easter egg line-up... I didn't even get to the skulls yet! So this may require two posts, rather
than one post, as I had hoped... Ah, well...
1.) Sarge's Cigar
Apparently, the good ol' Sarge is a litter bug, since this little egg just so happens to BE one of his cigars. It can be
found in the level 'Armory'. Right before you follow Sarge into the tram, where he starts talking about how he "hasn't
been home in years.", there is a trash can off to the right, hidden slightly by a potted plant, so it's easy to miss when
you run by. If you run into the can over and over, to nudge it aside, you can eventually see one of Sarge's cigars,
carelessly discarded. Also, one can be seen on the level 'Outskirts', right after you reach Hotel Zanzibar, you will
run into two Marines pinned down by some Grunts and an Elite. There is a small room behind the counter the Marines
were using for cover, and in there, is a large, cylinder-shaped medical supplies container. Behind that, is another of
Sarge's cigars.
Sorry about the long delay (too long) but I had lent my H2 Hacks book to Viper... Eh heh...
So, if anything, I SHOULD be able to continue soon, since he wants to borrow it again...

Much like the Halo fan videos (see
http://www.redvsblue.com), Halo 2 jumping has taken on a life of it's own. Groups such as Jump Tactics (http://www.jumptactics.net) have raised the bar when it comes to the difficulty and complexity of Halo 2 jumping techniques.
Some sites have even started "jump" game tournaments. Instead of fighting each other, players engage in a game similar to HORSE. One player challenges another to perform a particular jump. If a player fails to meet the jump challenge, a referee penalizes him with aletter. Some of the more esoteric jumping techniques are vital for players to learn.
Many of these trick jumps require considera, on Xbox Livble practice, so I met up with Kahai Maluu, the founder of Jump Tactics. Kahai demonstrated some of the more difficult jumping maneuvers. in fact, we captured some screenshots for this chapter during that online session.
Unfortunately, we don't have space to include all of the jumping techniques (http://www.jumptactics.net/modules.php?name=Downloads). I recomment that you check out the online videos of each technique.
Upcoming Jump Tactics
Add Height to All Your Jumps - Use this crouch technique to add height and distance to your jumps
Blast Yourself into the Air - Assist your jumps with explosions
Extend your Jumping Distance - Add a little bit of range to your jump by using the late jump technique
The Longest Unaided Halo 2 Jump - Bridge monstrous gaps by using the slide technique
Extend Your Landing Points - Add distance to your jumps by using "saving" from the sink of your landing pointThis is the introduction to Halo Jump tactics, the first Chapter of
Halo 2 Hacks (pg.1), by Stephen Cawood.

FAQs
Q: What is “Halo Wars”?
A: “Halo Wars” is the next big real-time strategy game from Ensemble Studios, creators of Age of Empires. Designed exclusively for the Xbox 360, “Halo Wars” allows you to take charge of the human UNSC armies and see the Halo universe from a totally new perspective.
Q: Where does “Halo Wars” take place in the Halo timeline?
A: “Halo Wars” takes place before Halo 1 during the UNSC’s first deadly encounters with the Covenant.
Q: Can you reveal anything about “Halo Wars” storyline?
A: Players will lead the crew of the UNSC’s “Spirit of Fire” from initial skirmishes to an all out war against the evil Covenant.
Q: Will I be able to play as the Covenant?
A: Stay tuned.
Q: Why is “Halo” being made into an RTS game?
A: Warthogs are cool. Scorpions are cool. Controlling lots of Warthogs and Scorpions and sending them into battle is really, really cool.
We’ve been big fans of Halo for years at Ensemble Studios, and when we sat down to discuss our next project we thought Halo would be absolutely perfect as an RTS on the Xbox 360.
Q: When will “Halo Wars” be available?
A: Stay tuned.
Q: Will I be able to play Halo Wars on Xbox 360 and PC?
A: Halo Wars is for the Xbox 360 exclusively.
Q: Is the trailer pre-rendered?
A: Yes, and it's based around our world concepts and uses lots of in-game models. The sound and music were done at Ensemble Studios as well. Props to our friends at Blur for bringing it all together and making it really shine.
Q: Other RTS games that have transitioned to console have had issues with controls, how will “Halo Wars” improve on the formula?
A: “Halo Wars” was created for the Xbox 360 from the ground up, which meant we didn't have to make compromises or shoe-horn in artifacts from a Windows PC game. We were able to take all the best aspects of RTS games, make them work perfectly on the Xbox 360, and exclude the rest.
Q: Where can I learn more about other Halo games?
A: Our friends at Bungie, the creators of the Halo Universe, have lots of information about Halo. Check them out here: www.bungie.net.
