Blizzard announces StarCraft 2!

After years of waiting, Blizzard Entertainment seconds ago announced that StarCraft 2 would be the new game!
We just got hit by the news that SC2 is indeed out! What we have so far is reports by IGN about the new game and that it looks like an RTS and not an MMO. The game is actually playable and is being showed live on screen at WWI.
So far we know very little about the game apart from what is being showed at the video at the World Wide Invitational.
There appears to be new Protoss units called Immortals and Colossus. Immortals have a shield that actives upon damage only. Colossus are huge Protoss units with dual laser shots apparently.
Terran reapers are also new units. Only game play information so far.
New Protoss unit called Stalker which can teleport.
Many Zerg apparently have teleport as well.
Several new Protoss units available, another one called Warprey, a flying unit.
This appears to be a live demonstration meaning its not a movie; will probably be available online at a later time.
Zerglings can now mutate into bombs that suicide that roll across the map. Yet another new Protoss unit called Phoenix.
A new Protoss unit called a Protoss Mothership which you can only have one at the time.
QUOTE
3:10 - Terran reapers - can hop across unever terrain with jump packs - two types of small pistols that don't activate immortals. Protoss now have the ability to create shields whereever they want. Protoss can now warp in units from manufacturing facilities anything within pylon range. New protoss unit - stalker - can teleport - quadripedal thing - can keep blinking forward - seems to be a shot cooldown on the ability. Zerg start coming in, giant worms pop out of ground unleasing zerglings. Protoss can use phase fields and teleporting abilities to create an army anywhere on the battlefield, according to Blizzard.
3:09 - controlling protoss zealots - still has psi blades and personal shield - new charge ability that let him quickly close range on enemies. Siege tanks shown - still the same type of behavior where they can lock down - take out zealots really quickly - new protoss unit - called immortals - have special shield that only activates upon being powerfully attacked - siege tanks could barely do any damage to them.
3:07 - Showing gameplay footage - Looks like protoss ships - floating over asteroid/ base structure - entering protoss ase - similar looking buildings - vespene gas still in the game - character pane shows up on right side - some protoss guy - shifts to terran bases floating on rockets over same type of territory - sill collecting crystals as resources - marines load out. Dustin is actually playing the game - nothing in the game is final.
3:15 - Zerglings can mutate into suicidal bomb things thar roll across the ground - very powerful explosions. Colossus using new IK system to move across differences in terraing height. Colossus extremley weak against air strike - New unit for protoss - Pheonix - can overcharge guns for multiple projectile blast - but after blast the ship is rendered inert for a short period.
3:18 - warprey also very effective against structures - very vulnerable to small unit fire - shws warpreys getting wiped out by terran marines. Physics system lets debris from warpreys roll down a ramp. Showing one more unit - warped in in a serious of cubes - giant floating base - called a protoss mothership - can only have 1 at a time - cost big resources - special abilities include timebomb that slows all enemy missiles inside - shows terran missle launcher shooting in projectiles that stop in the field before they reach the ship - when field ends missiles drop the ground - planet cracker attack - giant lasers stream from ship to ground - ship can be moved around while planet cracker laser is active - the ship looks like a metallic, triangular sand dollar - mothership can create a black hole anywhere it wannts to - creates distortion that actually sucks ships in and destroys them - in the demo the black hole destroyed four terran battle cruisers in about ten seconds.
3:26 - Showing another video of "things to come." concept art for SC2 - zerg landscapes - ruined terran structures - freen filds - SC2 looks, at least visually, strikingly similar to SC1 - both in unit and map designs. Now showing a giant rush of zerglings - probably over 100 of them, swarming with no slowdown - mroe character art - finishes with the StarCraft II logo.
3:50 - Blizzard has not yet announced a release date for StarCraft 2.
3:44 - Had to run out of conference room to plug in laptop - there's an hour long information session starting in about 30 minutes - don't know if there's an internet connection there so I might not be able to update until i get back. As for initial StarCraft 2 impressions - the game looked very similar to SC1 - nearly identical user interface - graphic styles and unit proportions nearly the same - more flashy lighting effects but it seems like Blizzard didn't want to mess with SC's underlying formula very much. The screens they showed the video on didn't display the video very clearly, unfortunately, but the game still looked pretty with some nice animations. We'll have to wait to bring you any updates on what kind of story elements are in SC2 - hopefully they're in the panel discussion. Anyway, gotta run - thanks for reading and we'll update as soon as possible.
Ingame unit summary

here is a play-list on youtube that shows you what the new battle net for Starcraft will be like. Some of this shit is pretty cool and gives you an idea of what things are going to look like, and what we'll see when we buy Starcraft 2
http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=E78D1948B6A410D5you could probably skip the first 2 videos if you want. they also lag a bit.
Opinions?

I was wondering what do you think about starcraft 2 so far. Would you change something or keep it like the way its going. Post your opinion on how starcraft 2 is going so far
I personally don't like how how protoss have some of the same units but with different names. But I do love the Mothership and how you can teleport units. In Terran I wish there was still firebats and how Terran just seems to be a focus on improvement in Starcraft 2. For zerg Im kinda disapointed, I was just expecting more

Hey you guys IGN as released some singleplayer info on starcraft 2. Even though this is some what of a cock tease it made me a bit more excited for SC2. This only focuses on the Terrans but it's still cool since it gives you bit more insight on how the game is coming along and what you can expect.here's the link
http://pc.ign.com/articles/101/1014331p2.htmlI have to admit I'm glad that they split this up into 3 separate games so we can get it sooner and have a bigger campaign.

Hey you guys Blizzard released a SC2 pokerset, it's kind of cool actually. The only problem is you'd lose some people's respect when you purchase this item. Check it out for yourself.
http://www.starcraft2.com/features/misc/pokerset.xmlI personally think it looks cool the cards are unique but it seems nerdy in my opinion. But for you SC lovers you might like it.
Also it says it'll be available at Blizzcon 2009... then we'll probably see it pop up for sale probably at 75$ or higher.

Hey everyone I was just curious and wanted to know what Starcraft 2 race you're most excited to play or see. Though we still haven't seen or heard much as most of us would like I would appreciate it if you could vote and post your opinion.
Personally I'm stoked to play as Protoss. They seem to have tons of strategies similar and different from the original Starcraft that I want to test out. I also want to play around with the mothership

Well, I was laying here on my bed reading the third and final installment to the Dark Templar Saga: Twilight. It's been a good few months since the last Starcraft book I had read - I, Mengsk. But this however, bridges the gap of storyline between Brood War and Starcraft 2.
As most of you all know, the Protoss in Starcraft 2 are relatively united, creating the Twilight Archons, powerful balls of energy formed by the melding of a High Templar of the Khalai, and a Dark Templar of the Void. The Dark Templar Saga goes over how the two Protoss factions reunite, and the many reasons of why they reunite, is a story to behold.
WARNING: Spoiler Alert!
Apparently, after Zeratul had to kill the beloved Matriarch, Raszagal, he ventured upon an experiment being conducted by Samir Duran. Of which any people have come to think of as the Vanix, the cross between the Protoss and Zerg. It's true that the two races are linked by the Xel'Naga, for creating them, and engineering them to be pure in form. The actual reason for them being linked has been widely believe to be just by their creators.
This assumption has been all but wrong, as was revealed in this final book.
The Xel'Naga still exist, in another form however. Their so called "experiments" of creating races and civilizations throughout the universe was only but a portion of a cycle of their lives. The Xel'Naga do not create civilizations for fun, or as an experiment. They create them as part of their life cycle, throughout the ages. It just so happens, that this time around in this endless cycle, it was the Protoss and Zerg that were chosen to be next. The similarities between the Protoss and Zerg are not just mere coincidence either.
The Protoss rely on the Khala to link each and every Aiur Protoss together like a single consciousness, sound familiar?
The Zerg rely on a single consciousness to direct their civilization. It is their drive to assimilate the best in everything they come across, which is what happened to Kerrigan, she was the best Ghost that the Terran Confederacy had created.
The purest forms of the two races, the drive to assimilate knowledge and the drive to perfect, are the basic traits of the Xel'Naga. Which is why it was shocking to realize, that when the Zerg and Protoss combine, they BECOME the Xel'Naga. The genetic hybrid that Samir Duran has been messing with is the incorrect way for this to happen. Which is why stopping him and his Protoss counterpart, Ulrezaj is so important. Because if the Xel'Naga were evil, the universe would have probably been a different place by now. And to make things worse, because the Xel'Naga were actually destroyed by the Zerg, they weren't able to complete the changes they may have wanted to instill into the Zerg. And this, we have a break in this seemingly endless cycle. The proper way for this combination to happen, is by utilizing the powerful energies of the crystals by which the Xel'Naga powered their amazing technology. In the book 'Legacy of the Xel'Naga' the Xel'Naga temple yielded an unprecedented lifeform that was fed the energies of the Zerg and Protoss. Absorbed into this lifeform, it sprang to life, and flew off intot he universe, never to be seen from again. The powerful life-giving energies that lingered in that temple is the same energy that is required to combine the essence of the Protoss with the Zerg. Creating a genetic imitation of this is not the right way for this to happen. Creating an imitation of this utilizing the wrong type of energy also creates an abomination that spells trouble for the rest of the universe, as Ulrezaj has done so far. (For those of you who don't know, Ulrezaj is the most powerful Dark Archon to have ever existed)
This is why the unity of the Protoss is so important this time around. Combined, their power is unsurpassed, and they have the power to do so much more than what we've seen in Brood War. And saving that Preserver is all the more important, because she was the one who devised this theory of the Xel'Naga lifecycle through the memories and knowledge of all the Protoss who've passed.
Hope you've enjoyed this post.
En Taro Tassadar. (As they now say)

As some of you might know in the past there was an update about the Terran cow marines, and now there are only the screen shots. Because Blizzard has a thing for cows I believe theres going to be something that still involves the Cow Marines or a Secret Cow Level. I think it could be fun if we could read other peoples opinions about this.
You can see the Screenshots at

Blizzard has designed two different dark templar units each with unique looks thus blizzard has decided for the fans to pick which one will be in Starcraft 2. as seen here
http://starcraft2.com/features/protoss/darktemplar-vote.xmlThe first option represents the Lenassa tribe of dark templar, which made its debut in the
original StarCraft. This unit carries a single warp blade, and a cloth shroud covers its face.
The second option represents the Zer'atai tribe of dark templar, who wield dual scythes and wear an ensemble of heavy armor and the bones of slain zerg.
To vote for your choice and help decide what unit we'll be seeing on SC2 go here
http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?topic...38&sid=3000You do need an account to vote though.
My opinion is that the first option should be the one in SC2. Although having both versions in the map creator would be great. The 2nd option just seems like something from the movie predator.

Since there hasn't been many updates on Starcraft 2 I decided to post this topic. What would you add to SC2 to make it more interesting? I think being able to have a tracking ability, seeing where units have been are where they went would add nice strategy. (doesn't have to be abilities whatever you want)

How much you guys want to bet that the first thing people do are going to make hacks and mods for Starcraft 2?
I mean come on, these days you can't play a fair game of Starcraft BGH Melee without someone using Uberhack/Oblivion...etc.
I have found that hacks only make the game for the hacker, a good way to stop this is PENGUIN PLUG! It kicks people hacking off of Starcraft completely so they have to start over.
Half the games I play are either against Comps or UMS because you just can't play a fair game of Starcraft anymore. Everyone in the whole damn world will want hacks for Starcraft 2 and it's going to sicken me that you do this to a perfectly balanced game!
Every REAL gamer can play any game without hacks and cheats!
Someone who respects a game plays it as it is, I don't know, maybe I'm just a guy who likes to play games where people who have no skill what-so-ever can slaughter anyone in the Koprulu Sector (Human Sector).
Every man known to Starcraft can play with hacks, the real gamers have beaten the whole storyline, beginning with Starcraft -
Broodwar without some of the more popular cheats** such as:
Black Sheep Wall - Reveals the whole mapShow Me The Money - 10,000 Gas and MineralsBreathe Deep - 500 GasPower Overwhelming (an actual saying..from the Protoss Archon) - InvincibleMidieval Man - All technology upgradesWhats Mine Is Mine - 500 MineralsFood For Thought - Unlimited Supply (Build to two-hundred without building Pylons/Overlords/Supply Depots.)Operation Cwal - Instant Upgrades, Almost Instant BuildingModify The Phase Variance - Build without meeting requirementsNoglues - Enemies can't use psionicsSomething For Nothing - 1 Weapon and Armor UpgradeStaying Alive - Keep playing even after killing everyoneGame Over Man - Lose the game instantlyThere Is No Cow Level (Probably the most popular) - Instant victoryThe Gathering - Unlimited Psionic Ability (like unlimited Mind Controls...etc...etc)
Now I know that there are probably going to be cheats similiar to these and I won't deny that I haven't used these in a CUSTOM MAP, but in the storyline I did NOT use them. It took me a long time to do this, but eventually I beat both, and trust me, it's more rewarding, my brother used cheats the whole time and when he powered his way through Starcraft and Broodwar he was very dissappointed. Now don't mistake this for a lecture, it's just a sad thing that I happened to realize and notice that Starcraft 2 is probably going to be tainted even before the bugs are fully kicked out.
Anyways have fun, and keep CRAFTING!
