My friend needs help with her math.

Recommended Posts

I know some of you fuckers here are like math geniuses. It says to approximate the following;

log(base4) 0.1

The 4 is, below the log.. help? Not sure how to do decimals.

You mean log(base 4)0.1? If it says to approximate, all you have to use is a calculator...

Yeah, but it said not to use a calculator.

It said to not use a calculator.. to estimate the answer... log base 4 0.1?

lol

Log(base4)0.1=x

4^x=0.1

Which approximated is

-1.66>x>-1.67

so like ~-1.7

IS THAT HOW YOU DO IT?!?!?!?! Im, stupid. Dont trust me with math again >_>

Put the equation equal to x

Put x as an exponent to base4 (4^x)

Put 0.1 to the other side of the equation

Solve.

Which i used a calculator for because i didn't want to multiply stuff for an hour.

So find an easy way to solve 4^x=0.1

and your good...

Find me an easy way to solve 4^x = 0,1 considering 4 is 2*2 and 0,1 is (2*5)^-1. What the heck can you do with the 5? Eat it?

I think you have to approximate it somehow like you do with squareroot2, but I don't remember how you do that...

Try this:

log(base 4) 0.1 = x

4^x = 0.1

4^-2 = 1/16 = 0.0625

4^-1 = 0.25

so we know x is in between 1 and 2

we also know that it is closer to 2 then one so lets try 5/3

4^(-5/3) = 1/cuberoot(4^5) = 1/cuberoot(2^10) = 1/4(cuberoot(4)) approx = 1/99 = approx 0.1
