JoshJayK 16,648 Posted March 21, 2010 Demise of coral, salamander show impact of Web The Internet has emerged as one of the greatest threats to rare species, fueling the illegal wildlife trade and making it easier to buy everything from live baby lions to wine made from tiger bones, conservationists and law enforcement officers said Sunday. That's only an excerpt. Source(s): http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100321/ap_on_..._saving_species Share this post Link to post
Major Zhuinden 128 Posted March 21, 2010 I don't think that just because a few random people want something and buy it through the medium we call Internet would cause such a drastic blow on wildlife as several giant hunts had caused before. Share this post Link to post
GhoztMan 219 Posted March 21, 2010 I shudder to think how they made wine... out of bones. I mean, what would that taste like..? o.0 Share this post Link to post

JoshJayK 16,648 Posted March 21, 2010 Well they've officially made the lizards an endangered species, so I would think it's made quite a dent. This wine stuff better be as good as it costs. Share this post Link to post
GhoztMan 219 Posted March 23, 2010 "the lizards"? What kind of lizards? o.0 Share this post Link to post
JoshJayK 16,648 Posted March 24, 2010 Whoops. I meant salamander. The newt is a textbook example of what can happen to one species through trade on the Web. According to a study by the WWF, the black and brown salamander with white spots is coveted in the pet trade. They number only around 1,000 and live in Iran's Zagros Mountains. About 200 have been traded annually over the years, mostly through a Web site operated out of Ukraine. Their population has fallen 80 percent. Share this post Link to post
