Zombification Red [Mod]

As the Topic Description states, this is my first attempt to Starcraft Broodwar Modification. I've been inspired seeing my Battle.net friends create these modifications, and I thought it was pretty cool overall with the weapon changes, and variety of modifications you can input to Starcraft Broodwar. Seeing I had my modding tools and all already in one file, ready just incase I was to get interested in making my own (Which I've just gotten my interest to). Well enough with the introduction, so I shall move to the point. I wish for suggestions other than my ideas and my friends' ideas, which all seem mainly very difficult to even finish on.

 

So here's the current idea that me and my three friends came up with for the modification:

 

First of all let us get with the main topic, it consists of a resident evil theme, containing the basic concept of the theme, the zombies. In this mod, there'll be more than just zombies, like the Resident Evil game series, there will be more than just the plain old zombies, there'll be some out of the ordinary experiments, created by the random-system which I'll explain later on. There'll be about five factions in this modification, which are: Mercenaries, Army, D.B. (Deity Barrier [Organization name] ), Citizens (Neutral), Zombies. Yes they must sound corny or just too un-original... But this is nothing too serious, but I hope to make it some work so that it isn't a total one day work.

 

And here's a basic layout of each faction.

 

Mercenaries - Has units that can mainly go cloak, can side with any side (excluding Zombies).

Background: Comes to the city before the whole infestation, just comes as freelance party and seasoned soldiers that are in one whole group, growing as a famous group for their appearances around several cities succeeding in their mission. This is basically their headquarter of sort, their home overall from all their alternative camps. Comes with many skillful soldiers, with a dark templar (hero).

Power: Moderately High

 

Army - Bigger in size than the Mercenaries, choice to ally with Mercenaries, enemy of D.B. and Zombie.

Background: This city is being mainly like a big city, not as big as L.A. in real life, but big enough to be called a city. They already consist of a moderate camp for this faction, the army. They start out weak, with only a few outpost and not so great forces. After the whole infestation, there comes another wave of reinforcement, which consists of the skilled soldiers, consisting of four "Veteran" Lt.'s, with a very skilled sniper (hero). They add the true force and power of this faction, having some of the strong defensive add-ons as well as another camp which is rescuable. Later on they match the Mercenaries with their brute force in numbers, but will still take sometime to develope the true power of what they can obtain.

Power: Weak - Moderately High

 

D.B. (Deity Barrier) - Name's Origin is unknown, identical as the Umbrella but more brutal in experiments.

Background: Hidden in the city's downtown area, which to the point of where many company buildings stand, they stand as a company working on genetic advances in human, as well as organization to find new kinds of diseases. But that is all just a cover really, merely standing a strong evil company, using the ignorance of the world who doesn't suspect such outragous acts of experimenting. They control a lab-like structure which is in the map, which'll continue to summon up and morph random beasts. There are many information of this organization that are still unknown, and probably better left alone. After their release of the Infestation, they allow a few subjects quietly doing so. This infection is nothing like the virus, or somewhat like the quickly spreading virus... This spreads like any disease, to be a bit realistic, through some kind of sexual actions, maybe sometimes which consists of those who has low immunity level spreading it by just contact to others... Even with this very slow process, it processed well and slow enough for the company to create a strong defense, protection against this. This whole infection is about to cause total turmoil over the city, having already the two strong factions ready to retaliate anytime. They consist of very forbidden and vicious creatures, experiments that makes one hundred average soldiers equal to their moderately leveled creature.

Power: Extremely High

 

Citizen [Neutral] - Ordinary civilians, able to arm weapons. There are some civilians that can carry even those very strong weapons, but only few.

Background: Neutral, able to be killed by any faction, used in experiment by the D.B., hide in a closet nearby, used as some meat shield. They can be some big help, can be recruited by the two organized human race and taken to form more of their ranks. Maybe a spy from the D.B., maybe just some simple scientist worker recruited by the D.B.. They're basically freelancing heroes, who can be used as goons, soldiers.

Power: Moderately Low - Moderate

 

Zombie - Basic, mutated to infested freaks, maybe some dead human who is just going to eat the others.

Background: Created by the evil organization, made to maybe just clog up the whole good acts, just to stall the factions. Flood the streets for their fun... Or just let them roam like they should and will be, maybe doing accordingly as planned by D.B., or just kill one of their own. It all depends on how it works for their luck, randomized roaming.

Power: Moderate

 

I am still thinking but basically this is how it'll work... The city will be a map, will try to make it as big and realistic as possible and such. I'm pretty well on map-making but still kind of new to modification. My ideas are big, formed by my friends, revised by me. I so far hope you like the preview... Oh and for the heroes...

 

Army Hero: 1 ~

Jonothan - Sniper, talent in sniping, has a nice fire delay than the other snipers, has a little better sight-range/shoot-range. Stronger, and has the detector ability for his gear.

Weakness: In close range, is just weak as a civilian, can't even fight back unless he runs away... (To make it simple, think like this. Siege Tank = Mininum Range is not 0~)

 

Mercenary Hero: 1~

Timmathy - Leader, owns the permanent cloak ability, has nice melee damage, has some improved speed/sight range, able to plant bombs.

Weakness: If detected, he's screwed unless he finds a smart way to escape. The zombies will swarm him, strength cannot save him for his attack rate. If to survive this, military can shoot him down in one hit easily with his low hp. Mainly this guy's weakness is: Detector, and Range.

 

D.B. Hero: 1~

Lane - High ranking officer of D.B., works with experiments. Holds power to manipulate the experiments, strong in speed and, low range attack.

Weakness: Without his experiments, 100% loss for him.

 

Zombie Hero: ?????

Still thinking, formulating monsters that are roaming and strong at the same time...

Weakness: Won't know until I find some monsters.

 

Citizen Hero: 2

Optional for now~ Pending on ideas from friends and from you. They're like those typical civilians going to beacons for hero selection, but a little more like selection in weapons.

Weakness: Depends.

 

 

Current Positions:

Karunashi: Modification creator / Map creator / Reviser / Suggestive Idea Person

 

Lane: Helps on the idea of the thing, will keep the evil plans for the D.B. in mind.

 

Tim: Will help with the whole mercenaries idea, and their power. Their weapons as well.

 

Jonothan: Came up with this whole idea, came with the basic topic, the zombie to start it off with.

 

 

I await your constructive comments, suggestions and add-ons. Complaints/flamings are alright but keep it low. . . This was formed in about 10-15 minutes, the idea at least. First try in the modification as well, but I admit, it's not original. The zombie part goes to those creators of the zombies and Capcom for their idea of the whole organization and such which is mainly the D.B., relating to the Umbrella.

Update: My group has decided to make Mercenaries into a definite ally with the army, nothing too big for me for it makes it easy for me in the triggers for the map. Don't get it confused with the fact that this is still mod, but mainly for the one map. I may add a fun-package usable for Melee so my friends can play around.

 

That and the neutrals, there will be one player with the choice of being a civilian, able to pick weapons as said. Can join any side, excluding the zombies, and also will be able to find some extra units that the other factions cannot get to. Therefore this civilian's role is more important. I've decided to make a additional unit for the army. The sniper hero will have his pal, his partner who will be specialized in close combat, a little small range just so he won't get hit first by a zombie... Splash with Article Shock Cannon which is not too damaging, not too splashing but fast attack. Mercenaries will be able to hit air units but only their turrets, so... If they're (Mercenaries in this case) stranded in some building attack of let's say... Some Air unit, they'll have some hard time. I plan on giving the leader some kind of close combat air attack, that or a EMP missile used as a slow explosive air attack.

 

 

Today's Request: Mind giving me some help on Modding? I don't expect you to waste too much time on a newbie, but I ask for some kind of idea, a link to a tutorial, some kind of good technique. Any advice is appreciated.

A team eh...? Hmmm sounds good but I'd first like to get the basics and my modification done first. But I'll still keep that in mind, just in case I am interest :D

 

Well I didn't see much use in talking around here (No offense to those who take it offensively) at first, seeing I was like any mindless fool that time that was a obvious reaction from me. Now I see this place to be a big help :).

 

Hmmm So far not much of updates. This Friday, and Saturday I've been relaxing sense I have finals/mid-terms this week. God this week will suck... But anyways to the point of this short life events here is to basically say, I can't be working on the modification this week. Finals/Mid-Terms are already going to give me some troublesome work. 'til then, I am hoping for more messages or just some simple suggestions.

I'm not into modding starcraft much, but we do have a section for that in the downloads, feel free to add your mod to the downloads, I will approve it for you. :D

 

As far as the "teams" go, you can create your own "team" and be the manager of the team forum. Use it to discuss a specific topic and keep a group of people focused on something. Allow only the members you "approve" into your team!

Hello, I'm back!... Well I'm done with my finals, only one left which is on Friday. It won't take too big of a work for me on this last one so I won't be gone the whole entire day. Updates are, we're probably going to go as same as Mrekalis styled in the terrain. It'll be like that for a far more "Adventure" styled. It won't be that great from what I'm seeing, my friends and I am just playing around for this one but we're planning for a story here anyways... So it isn't completely worthless ;)

Sorry to break your plan, but do you understand how HARD modding is? First of all: This mod will HAVE to be for 1.13E unless you have firegraft. Second of all: Making units cloak requires EXE Editing of the hardcoded data in the game, and for that, you'll need to know the hex of SC VERY WELL in order to find the right hex to change to make a certain unit cloak. Third of all: If you EVER want to mod, your going to need my Patch Installer to get to older version easier. I can have you make the mod with Stargraft, then you can attach and PM me the .pat file and i will make it into a firegraft EXE, and send back both EXE and MPQ, and you can add in the .dat files and such, and then we can beta test the mod. You make modding sound like a nearly impossible task....:/ It's not that hard... sheez.

 

EDIT: Oh, and BTW, Hex Coding isn't that hard to fiddle with. If it's a string, your editing your fine. If it's not then you've got problems.... And you don't exactly have to hex edit anything to make a mod...

Making units cloak has nothing to do with code editing.

A setting in datedit or arsenal III has cloak options, permanent cloak and cloakable.

All you have to do for the cloakable is add a button for them with memgraft or stargraft.

Modding is easy in a sense. Just depends on what you're trying to do.

Datedit isn't as pretty as it seems. I'm not saying it's bad or anything, datedit is the fucking best thing ever, what i mean is that just because it says it makes units cloakable, doesen't mean it really does. DoA said he needed to edit the hex code and even 1 line of EXE code to get a valkrye to cloak. And i'm not trying to say modding is hard. It's quite easy if you practice. So, if you need any help, just tell me.

Lol, well to answer your Darkomni. I know that modding is mainly difficult and I tried to pull out as many impossible to insane works that my friends suggested. They've suggested to put a whole new tileset with a new map... That maybe possible but I'm not going to use so much of the time I have in my hands. Well the cloaking, I've just went through my programs before I even suggested the concept "modification" to my friends. And I've found out of the datedit and such, with the cloaking toggle options. With that, I saw that it wouldn't be impossible for I made the guess that the maker of the program wouldn't be making false commands. Even if it was false, that program is awesome ;)...

 

I did see WC III's modding, it all looked great but I even know I'm not ready for that kind of modding. Starcraft Broodwar isn't that easy itself but at least it is much easier or so I presume. I plan on getting some advice from my already modding friends, who has inspired me to even get near the Modifications. Maybe search through starcraft warboard forums, and other places for the tutorials/help. After I get the hang of the modding down, and find it awarding as I thought of it as, I shall move to a "real" modification. Lol This modification is just to help me get modding techniques and stuffage ready for me, as well as getting the mod done for my friends.

 

Anyways thanks for all the responses.

 

No Updates so far, have one last midterm (I hope) tomorrow. So I have to get studying.

 

Upgrade to the Idea [50/50 chance to be done] : Colors will be altered, as in the photon cannon colors and such, maybe use some of my poor photoshop skills to make new graphics: [units: Probably || Buildings: For sure at least one or two. || Extras: Pending ]. This is a 50/50 chance of upgrade... But I'm pretty sure this upgrade will be dealt with.
