Azu 24 Posted April 5, 2008 (edited) FBI posts fake hyperlinks to snare child porn suspects The FBI has recently adopted a novel investigative technique: posting hyperlinks that purport to be illegal videos of minors having sex, and then raiding the homes of anyone willing to click on them. Source: http://www.news.com/8301-13578_3-9899151-38.html?tag=yt If that article is true and those links are still active then you might get a knock on your door early tomorrow morning (I embedded the "honeypot" links as image tags in this post to test if they still work or not). If it works please tell me. Edited April 6, 2008 by Azu Share this post Link to post
XGhozt 410 Posted April 5, 2008 No, we can't have dynamic images, so the images don't show. And having them as images in a post still means you're making the request. This is freaky. :D Share this post Link to post
Suteki 114 Posted April 5, 2008 LOL The security risk with this makes me believe it isn't true. Okay so now when I really hate some kid I'll just hide the url and give him a link that looks like it's going to youtube.com or something, now when this kid clicks it he goes to jail, all because I don't like him and got him to click on a link that goes to some fake "FBI" shit. True you could say "you wouldn't know it was a fake." This may be true but once people do find out, they will post them around and this will become one big way you can get "revenge" on someone. Suteki 114 Posted April 5, 2008 By the way, isn't this a little thing called entrapment ? Share this post Link to post
XGhozt 410 Posted April 5, 2008 By the way, isn't this a little thing called entrapment ? Yeah, they mention it in the article. Share this post Link to post
Suteki 114 Posted April 5, 2008 According to them it is. Let's just wait and see how long it is before this turns into a "revenge" method that I've given. Share this post Link to post
Major Zhuinden 128 Posted April 5, 2008 They're overdoing it... Just because some people click on random links that contain CP doesn't mean they'll go rape people. I think this thing is wrong. Share this post Link to post
blight 0 Posted April 6, 2008 Doesn't sound like it'd hold up in court. I mean, they could use that sorta thing in order to paint potential targets...but unless they took further measures to verify stuff then it'd be too difficult to even prove it was intentional...mostly because of what you guys already mentioned about security risks and revenge and all, it just seems too full of holes. And what's just as bad as that...say the FBI is looking for a reason to raid a house because they suspect something, but don't have anything substantial. They make the hyperlink seem to be sumthin harmless in a normal e-mail(doing what you were talkin about in regards to revenge), they get a hit on their page, they get a warrant, and all of a sudden the 4th amendment shatters violently. Kenshyn 638 Posted April 6, 2008 Wouldn't finding all the CP and taking it down be better than this? Government these days... Share this post Link to post
Lost Prodigy 158 Posted April 6, 2008 This goes a little too far in my mind. I can;t believe the FBI is going to spread CP to random people, then book em on it. I'm going to laugh so hard when it gets sent to a little kid and they get sued for showing a minor pornography. Share this post Link to post
Suteki 114 Posted April 6, 2008 The links don't actually lead to any type of porn. Share this post Link to post
Renegade Angel 1 Posted April 6, 2008 Exactly, That would defeat the purpose of their trap lol Share this post Link to post
HG-Bounder-X 121 Posted April 6, 2008 The FBI and Government are retarded >_> There's not even a way to completely rid the net/world of CP or those that view it. Using a proxy or changing your IP(Depending if it's good enough) could trick the sites. And besides there's a reason they allowed lolicon to be legal -.- diversion from the real to the fake could help a lot in that area. Share this post Link to post
Suteki 114 Posted April 6, 2008 Last I heard actually is that lolicon is illegal in the U.S. Legal Status Share this post Link to post
Aimcrack 40 Posted April 6, 2008 They're overdoing it... Just because some people click on random links that contain CP doesn't mean they'll go rape people. I think this thing is wrong. That's not the point, Cp is illegal, period. No if's and's or but's. So if you click on it when you know what it is, you're completely liable. On the other hand with the tricking people into going to it, that's a different story. Share this post Link to post
HG-Bounder-X 121 Posted April 6, 2008 I recently learned about it in my Government class. Lolicon was perfectly legal as long as it wasn't not based off of real people. But it seems the Government is too closed minded to maintain their Bill of Rights as it harms no one. Share this post Link to post
Major Zhuinden 128 Posted April 6, 2008 Meh, this whole thing is retarded. There isn't much more to say. Share this post Link to post
Azu 24 Posted April 6, 2008 Aww someone edited my post and removed it, no fun. I put it back :) And to the guy saying it won't work, don't worry it will. I put a .jpg link that that REDIRECTS to it :P Let's see what happens :P Share this post Link to post
