one of my other computers got a virus i think whenever i turn it on it says hal.dll is missing or corrupt =( and i can go to safe mode or do anything to it =( i dont wanna reformat because i have some important stuff in it so someone please show me! ASAP

well, ill tell you right now. hal is a VERY important system file and i think you are screwed. reformat.

Unless you have a backup of that file, your coimputer will slowly start to die. You need to re-install windows on a second drive petition and then copy your files over, the ones you know are not bad, to the new windows.

Lol.. Tell me Midnight_Killa. Did u look at porn and downloaded something? or did u just download something from another person u didnt know? Next time have a lot of secruity like me. That way u don't have to keep getting new hardrives like me. Same thing happened to me when i downloaded some SC hack from some website. Since i got a 1 year warranty, i got free hardrive everytime my computer broke. Maybe next time u should ask a computer dude to copy ur hardrive so then next time if it happens again. You can just slip in the hardrive and BAM u can go play again. ( I don't know if its the hardrive but its something u replace that has all ur stuff and files. )

If he does not have HAL.dll he can not get into safe mode. His computer won't even start up. It is basically an API between software and a virtual layer that talks to your hardware. Without it, you're screwed.

The best route to save your computer and data would be to take your hard drive out and put it into a nother computer as a slave drive. Then, copy hal.dll from the master drive tot eh slave drive. Replace your hard drive and boot up.
