Why the fuck would anyone prank call the police. Your either really immature or just idiotic if you do shit like that. Also Skype is traceable...end of story.

Skype might be traceable, but it does NOT show up on Caller ID.

On Caller ID just shows up as Unknown Name, Unknown Number.

I've called my house before with it, and that's what it showed up as. Plus, I gave Slasher the number to the Police Station here in my town and she said thats how it showed up.

this is about skype. i kept calling blank calls to these 2 numbers 800522**** and 888522**** using skype

one of them called the police twice and stuff and i talked to XGhozt about this and got confused, and read this article:

The 16 law enforcement officers were heavily armed and expecting a confrontation with three AK-47 wielding intruders Wednesday night when they responded to an apartment on the 2200 block of North Main Street in Salinas.

When they got to the residence, though, no gunmen were in sight - just a bewildered family.

The officers had been lured to the apartment by a computer-using prankster in Chicago who engaged them in a practical joke known as "swatting," Salinas police said. The idea is to make a phony 911 call that prompts a SWAT team to respond to what police believe is a dangerous situation.

"From a personal standpoint, I'm angry someone would try this and find humor in it," Cmdr. Robert Eggers said Thursday.

In addition to police, the hoax targeted a 15-year-old boy who lives at the apartment and whom the prankster pretended to be while calling 911, police said. Instead of a phone, which can be traced, the caller used Skype, a computer software program for making calls over the Internet, police said.

Before emergency dispatchers got the phony call, the 15-year-old had

been on the Internet chatting with the person in Chicago and had given him some personal information, police said.

About 7:25 p.m. Pacific Standard Time, the computer-user in Illinois made the fake 911 call, claiming three men with AK-47s were trying to get into the apartment, police said. While police were en route, the caller contacted them again, saying he was hiding in the closet and that the gun-toting intruders were looking for him.

The software made emergency dispatchers believe the call was coming from the boy's phone. The teen had given the person in Chicago some of his personal information, unwittingly making the hoax possible, police said.

When officers arrived, they escorted the 15-year-old, his mother and his sister out of the residence before realizing there was no intruder, Eggers said.

IP address key to trace

The boy voluntarily surrendered his computer, and police technical experts will try and find the prankster's Internet provider address on it, police said.

Eggers said "swatting" is a growing national phenomenon among computer hackers and jokesters. In most cases, the computer-savvy individuals who make the calls do so because they don't believe they can be traced, he said.

"They don't realize how dangerous it is," Eggers said. "What they think is a juvenile prank is really something serious, because it ties up police resources."

During Wednesday night's incident, all 15 Salinas police officers on duty at the time and one sheriff's deputy responded to the apartment, Eggers said.

"Swatters" often are caught and arrested after police determine their IP address, he said.

The 15-year-old did not know police had been called to his apartment until the person in Chicago wrote to him online and asked if he heard sirens outside, Eggers said.

"No one in the apartment knew what was going on," he said. "They were shocked, but they've been cooperative with us."

Pizzeria targeted, too

Police believe the person behind the hoax is male and either in his late teens or early 20s. After the phony calls, police said, the same person actually called the Police Department - identifying himself as the 15-year-old - and asked why there was no response to the apartment, Eggers said.

When told officers had responded, he laughed and hung up. The person also placed several other 911 calls using the boy's address and ordered $127 worth of pizza from a local pizzeria, having it delivered to the boy's address, police said.

The case has been turned over to police detectives and the department's computer forensics unit.

The caller could face charges of reporting a false emergency, Eggers said.

Because the caller appears to have been in Chicago, Eggers said, police will investigate whether federal charges would be in order and if the FBI or U.S. Attorney's Office should get involved.

Eggers said computer-users should be cautious when giving personal information to someone they barely know.

"You might be giving them your information, and the next thing you know, the police could be at your door," he said.

and me and 951 were having fun on skype. but im afraid if im going to get caught even through skype. now ive been through many forums over the internet and heard skype isnt traceable or its possible but too hard and too expensive to trace..... my head is going is crazy. need answers. im scared if police catches me. btw, me and 951 kept calling those 2 number with skype (thinking skype is not traceable) but i was calling them repeatedly for like 6 hours like i had no life. need answers!!

To be honest with you, this doesn't sound like a very good idea to me...I think that they could easily trace you to your own home if they really wanted too. They have nearly unlimited resources, they are the FBI...

Jesus Christ, I'll use my neighbors then.

ither that or a payfone =P not that i would know haha

I call bullshit on that story! You can't make emergency calls using skype, it's against their terms and the software prevents you from doing so!

dude there's non emergency numbers that will patch you though to 911...i think
