Zar 696 Posted September 2, 2008 (edited) That's right buddies Limewire is no longer safe. Recently there has been a new virus laced in the MP3's. 1 out of every 3 downloads have the virus. BEWARE! I don't know if they are going to fix this but, until then I would stay clear of Limewire and downloading illegally. Edited September 2, 2008 by Zar Share this post Link to post
Major Zhuinden 128 Posted September 2, 2008 Downloading illegally? I wonder what you are talking about... Share this post Link to post
Zar 696 Posted September 2, 2008 (edited) Sorry I should have said what it was in my first post. It is a Trojan downloader and will infect all your music if you download an infected music file. This is the virus you can google it to learn more: Trojan - WMA:Wimad Trojan.Wimad is a Trojan that downloads remote files from remote Web sites by exploiting the Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology available in Windows. The Trojan arrives on the compromised computer as a license-protected multimedia file. Edited September 2, 2008 by Zar Share this post Link to post
Major Zhuinden 128 Posted September 2, 2008 Obviously only popular crap is infested, though. Share this post Link to post
Poply 178 Posted September 2, 2008 I didn't know that people still used Limewire. I stick to torrents and rapidshare links shared through warez sites. Share this post Link to post
Major Zhuinden 128 Posted September 2, 2008 Usually I download only music and I use Rapidshare links for that ^_^ Share this post Link to post
JoshJayK 16,648 Posted September 2, 2008 I have a website. xD It's safe. Share this post Link to post
Fc3sZero 78 Posted September 3, 2008 I've never been able to associate Lime Wire with a good running computer. (aka malware infested systems with a entire neighborhood of virus'.) Share this post Link to post
DevL 0 Posted September 3, 2008 Ok well I've been using LimeWire for a while now and my anti-virus has only picked up a few corrupted files. Is bearshare safe? And one thing. I am noob at this but what is torrent and where can I get it from or where do I go to use it? Share this post Link to post
ProSlasher 176 Posted September 3, 2008 Yeah... Cripp had a song that he shared with me "Got Shot through the Heart" That file was infected... It would play, but then tell you to install some codec... PLAY_MP3.exe to be exact. Just be smart... Don't be stupid... Wear an e-condom. Share this post Link to post
MadMatt 0 Posted September 3, 2008 e-condom :D fucking epic proslasher umm mp3 virus uh maybe thats why my comps been kinda lagged lately oh and i have like 5 or 6 gigs of music does it infect all of them or what? Share this post Link to post
ProSlasher 176 Posted September 3, 2008 No, it's a lot like Zlob... It downloads a bunch of shit to your computer... Share this post Link to post
plutomic 76 Posted September 3, 2008 well.. if you have a decent anti-virus it won't matter.. Besides, most of the infected ones open up a new web page... my anti-virus detects it, and aborts it. Share this post Link to post
DevL 0 Posted September 3, 2008 Ah, and ok ProSlasher, don't worry. E-Condom is on. :D Share this post Link to post

Union1 33 Posted September 3, 2008 just get a good firewall and it wont be able to download the shit to ur comp Share this post Link to post
ProSlasher 176 Posted September 3, 2008 Cripp... LOL... You were the one that sent that to me... I wonder if.. hmm. Well see this is the thing, it plays in wmp... it acts like an mp3, but some how it exploits and causes you to download stuff... I think I just understood how it does it... DRM protection checks the song against a license, and if the computer doesn't have the license, it trys to download it from the site encoded in the MP3... Hmmm... Very clever. Shadow(ConFed) 0 Posted September 3, 2008 I have also ran into a problem with Limewire, though not like a virus or anything when downloading MP3s. My two cents for you guys is to stay away from uninstalling it unless you have a good spyware/malware remover. When I was upgrading and fixing a buddy's computer, he asked me to uninstall it and I did. Well, after I was done, I called him over to check it out and well that's when it started acting strange and started bugging down and popping up with these annoying ads to scam you into buying something. So I told him that I can try to remove it later... I was too tired to do it then and there like I should have. I shut down his computer and rebooted... no dvd drive recognized, internet was blocked, and his USB ports were rejecting flash drives. Needless to say, I got his internet working for about an hour to download Spybot S & D 1.6.0 and removed it as the other programs we had at the time didn't remove all of the infection/problem. His computer is running good as new right now... unless that dreaded phone call comes in saying its messed up again. Share this post Link to post
Kenshyn 638 Posted September 4, 2008 I didn't know that people still used Limewire. I stick to torrents and rapidshare links shared through warez sites. I use Limewire, but only if I need to download a single song, and quickly. Otherwise, warez/torrents + rapidshare = win Share this post Link to post
